Keeping Memory Alive in Photos and Textiles | Arts to Hearts
August 27, 2025
At Arts to Hearts Project, we love conversations that reveal the stories behind materials, processes, and the memories artists carry into their work. In this interview, we sit down with multidisciplinary artist Kimberlea Bass, whose practice draws on family history, memory, and the passing of time. Based in Fort Worth, Texas, Kimberlea works across photography, mixed media, and assemblage, often beginning with discarded photographs, heirlooms, and found objects that she reimagines into layered works of art.

Lineage Opening Reception - The Pool
August 8- September 9, 2025
Lineage is a body of work that explores the roles of women through the lens of lineage, domesticity, and craft. Rooted in personal experience as a mother, daughter, and artist, my work draws from tactile, familiar materials—doilies, silverware, vintage photographs—and reimagines them as vessels of memory, labor, and care. The title honors and pays tribute to the women in my family while reflecting on my own evolving role—and my daughter’s—in today’s society.
2025 Texas Juried Exhibition - Artspace 111
26 July - 23 August 2025
“So encouraged to see all the variety of creative expression in this show! It’s easy to tell that these artists are having fun with their work. - It’s also easy to see the seriousness in which each artist approaches their craft. The disciplines are many. From styles like abstract, minimalism, and realism to materials like fabric, glass and cardboard, there is so much here to see! I trust the viewer will be pleasantly surprised by the vast number of ways each of these contemporary Texas artists have handled their specific medium to share their unique vision. Enjoy the show!” - Jon Flaming
Good Morning/Mourning America - Gallery 440
August 21-28,2025
The materials used to create this piece began during my MFA thesis, a time of deep experimentation with materials as I investigated themes of generational change, femininity, home, family, and the roles women inhabit. The process left me with piles of scraps—fragments of fabric and material that felt unfinished, unresolved. A week before my graduation, my favorite mentor and teacher, the person who challenged, inspired, and championed my work, passed away unexpectedly. Those scraps suddenly transformed into something more: a physical reminder of her presence, her absence, and the unfinished conversations we never had.
