My mixed media collection emerges from this interplay of memory and a sense of home away from home, drawing deeply from my own layered and intertwined experiences. The dance between foreground, middle ground, and background becomes a sustained metaphor for the many strata of memory and lived experience. All of these pieces are bound to a card of sheet music, each card inscribed with the name Emma. This handwritten element is not my own, but comes from a woman who passed down a small, intimate part of herself; I honor that exchange by weaving pieces of my own life into her story. Encased within the machine stitching are tiny mementos of myself: dried flowers gathered from my yard, tea bags from quiet morning steeps, and snippets of fabric from clothing I have worn. Every work functions as a two-sided collage, where the front and the back act as cause and effect for one another—mutually informing, reflecting, and refracting the other side. It is a quiet reminder that two truths can coexist even when they appear entirely separate.
This is the first time these works have been available for purchase; each of the three artworks has either won awards, been published, or been shown in galleries around the country. They will be available only until December 19th, making them an excellent way to begin a collection of original artwork.
